According to a report on Brooklynian.com, Connecticut Muffin recently let go one of their most liked employees: Armando, who was an employee at Connecticut Muffin for 11 years! According to people posting on Brooklynian site, he was let go after he disagreed with some changes the café made. The posters say the changes have resulted in less than helpful employees and longer waits. Ashley Faye is a former employee of Connecticut Muffin and had this to say about the changes, “I am also a former employee of The Muff, I was also discarded along with Armando.” Faye continued to say, “The abrupt discharge truly upset him and he was absolutely not ready for it.”

Armando was a throwback to “great service with a smile.” The neighborhood is rallying to get in touch with Armando to help find him a position at another café that would be lucky to have him. Join the discussion at Brooklynian.com.

Coffee lovers who stop in to one of the Slope’s bean roaster establishments have a new kid on the block (or one that has moved back). The former owner of Ozzie’s has opened a new coffee shop that promises to continue in Ozzie’s tradition – good coffee with a good conscience. Noella Brew Bar serves up organic coffee from Counter Culture and pastries from La Bagel Delight. For the more discerning taste, coffee can be made using the “pour-over” technique.

Located on 7th Avenue between Lincoln and Berkley, Noella Brew Bar will be competing against established cafes such as Café Regular Du Nord. Noella’s café provides great coffee with an unmistakable neighborhood ambiance, but only time will tell if Slope locals will choose higher end coffee with a price tag ($3 to $6 for a cup of “pour-over” joe) to match. Visit BlackBookMag.com for ratings and reviews of the newest additional to the Slope’s business community.

Yavel’s list:

Best Loaf – Lopez Bakery – 5th ave bet 18 th and 19th St. The bread is very good and cheap. I always get the 7 grain. They make a nice loaf, but stay away from the pastry. The bread is baked fresh every day, but the other stuff tends to be stale. Haven’t tried the tamales yet.

Bakery – Two Little Red Hens – 8th Ave. They’re expensive, but so good.

Bodega/small grocer – La Dolce Vita – 7th Ave – Clean store and nice owner, also has a good beer selection

Toy Store – Toy Space on 7th ave around 13th – Nice selection of toys, if a bit overpriced. This place has saved me on a few occasions when I had to get a quick gift for a kid. There’s also a place on 5th ave, but I can’t remember the name.

Children’s Shoes – Windsor Shoes – Prospect Park West – The staff is very helpful and they have a good selection.

Pizza – Pino’s La Forchetta – 7th Ave – classic pizza joint

Coffee Shop – 6th ave and 12th St – Red Horse Cafe – good coffee and not crowded

Sandwich shop – Pollios – 5th Ave – Good hoagies and specialty foods. It has a nice, neighborhood feel.

They can put a man on the moon… so what about decent coffee on 7th?

Gorilla, the Brooklyn coffee house generally acknowledged to be Doing Things Right(tm), is at least thinking about setting up shop on what is still considered the main drag in Park Slope.

This just in from DS stalwart 8thandPrez: “Based on the flurry of messages in another post, it seems there’s quite a demand for a Gorilla Coffee expansion. I took the liberty of emailing Gorilla and pleading for a new store on 7th.”

Here’s their very prompt response:

“hi there. thanks for the link [to the Daily Slope forum]. we’d love to [expand]…need to save up some money first. some day hopefully soon. we’d LOVE to be on 7th ave.

Coffee, workstations, free secure wireless internet, maybe some music at a very low background level. A spot like the Microchip Cafe would be perfect, but (with all respect to the extremely nice people who own it and work there…) in its current form, that place not only has zero atmosphere, it has negative atmosphere. I’ve been in a few times and couldn’t wait to leave.
