"I got a ticket this morning from the sanitation department due to a mess made by the people who dig through our recycling for cans and bottles."

"Turns out they started digging in the garbage as well, and left garbage strewn all over the sidewalk."

"I don't care if people take things out of the recycling--I actually leave the bag loosely tied so they can get at it easier and don't have to rip it. But the collectors have been getting more aggressive lately and have been making a huge mess--I've tried putting the recycling out right before the garbage truck comes but I have to leave for work at 6:30 am, which gives them enough time to dump the bags out and take what they want."

Brooklyn Summer is in full swing!! Yavel writes in the Park Slope Message Boards: "Has anyone else been plagued by these things lately? I've been seeing one or two every day for the past week. I guess they must love this hot and humid weather, but I've never been visited by so many of these things before. Wtf?"

"Just wanted to thank beet for leaving at least 6 menus on the stoop of every single building on PPW the other day. Sushi Master, you also done good. Nice technique, too - not secured or stuck in the door or anything, but just tossed out in the open like so much litter."

"I'm sure I'll be seeing those things blowing around for months. Just so you know, I got home pretty early yesterday and recycled the ones you left around our entryway instantly - nobody else even saw them."

"Last night I saw more rats on one block than ever before. After getting off the D train at Pacific Street (it was only around 7:30), I began to head up Pacific from 4th avenue toward Flatbush."

"One rat skittered across the sidewalk in front of me, then another, then another... Rats criss-crossed the sidewalk up the entire block! Big ones, little ones... it was like the movie Willard. I saw at least 2 dozen."

Lots of garbage bags were out, so that was clearly a factor, but does anyone know what the deal is here?
