Hi, Frankie and Richie Letteri are my cousins, they lived on 13th Street between 5th and 6th Ave. Both are living in Caifornia now doing well. frankie is still married to Carol who also lived on 13th Street. Richie is still married to Jeannie. I will call them and tell them about this site. Donna

  2. Donna Maxil – Thanks so very much for the information. My brother (John Gagliardi) and I were talking about the old bneighborhood & he was asking if I knew where the Letteri brothers were. He went to school with Frankie & I with Richie. Haven’t seen them in years. I always loved their mom & dad they were such sweet people. Are they still alive?? Here is my brother & my e-mail’s in case the boys would like to contact either of us……..

Hi, I’m Laura Marsella, I don’t know if I know you, but I did go to school with one of your brothers and I think it was Anthony. I’m looking for my grammar school pictures from St. Johns. My maiden name was LaTorre and I married Joey Marsella, his mother is Rose Marsella from 6th Ave between 20th and 21st. She know your mother. I blogged your brother Anthony and asked him if your father was a pharmacist or worked in a pharmacy in the neighborhood. I’m not sure if I have the person., but let know. Anyway, I hope to see you at the reunion and we’ll all get together and find out who’s who.

    GINA RICHES:
Where are you, have not seen you on the blog for a while.
    Love Laura

    FRANNY LAGRECA:
Are you going to the reunion. You have to remember me, I know you do. Love to see you. How is everyone.
    Laura

  4. Who remembers playing double dutch? Christina O you were great at it. Does anyone remember the pigeons across the street from me at Whitey’s house (danny). Sometimes he would sell watermelons out of a truck.

  5. I didn’t see anyone mentioning POPS Bazaar on 19th and 5th.
Boy if you every need anything you couldn’t find they had it. The store was so messy but they knew where everything was.
Remember the underwear hanging outside the store. LOL!

  6. Hi everyone, finally!
I don’t have regular access to a computer or I would have written sooner. This sight is awesome. How can you guys remember all those things. Thanks, Terry for bringing me down memory lane. Thanks to Maria & Carol for bringing me to this site. I will write soon.
    Love,
    Donna

Do I know you, I grew up on 6th ave and 19th street. I hung out on 21st and 6th with Judy Occhiogrosso, Joey Ciappetta, Eddie Bradley, Joey Marsella (my ex husband) and the rest of the gang. Please refresh my memory. Maybe at the reunion, I will remember you.
    Laura

  8. Lisa Friedland Esposito – You don’t know me , but I know your mother Dee & I just love her to death. In fact I just got off the phone with her. I just wanted to let you know that you, your sisters & all your cousins came from a wonderful family. In fact there were hundreds of wonderful families in South Brooklyn!

To all on this site – Thanks for a wonderful walk down memory lane. The stories are great. I know it was said before, but I need to say it again! We had the best neighborhood ever!

  9. christine olive,
YOU ARE FUNNY YOU ARE TAKING ANTHONY AND PAULIE’S HUMOR AWAY FROM THEM.
the problem is people dont read and everything is getting repeated. the administrator said for every 1000, blogs we get kicked off. he had to i guess ,get us back on awhile ago. we had problems writing and reading and reaching out to each other. so alot of memories are being repeated by alot of people , the new bloggers. yet marilyn and alot of others are bringing new people and great info to us about people and some are just repeating sorry just shouting out my opinion which people are probably going to get pissed off about. YOU AND KAREN MY ASSISTANTS NEVER WOULD I GET MAD AT YOU LOVE YOU TWIGGY alot of the old bloggers are not coming on because they already read alot of this info. love terry

  10. DONNA PALMA,
email me michele wants to email you and i will give you her email and phone number. you were such god friends as i was with margaret.

  11. The two dentist’s that I remember were Dr. Singer and Dr. Felder

The best time at St. John’s was Christmas time….the assemby, the plays and we always got a box of hard candy.

Wednesdays were the best….half a day….those pretzels and milk.

Terry—where is Michelle and Carl…would love to hear from them.

    Judy

  15. Mike the Ice Cream man was mentioned earlier on in the blog. Does anyone remember the name of the soft ice cream truck? Sometimes they would both pull up on the same block. Couldn’t decide on soft ice cream or hard ice cream. That was until Mike started making milk shakes and selling hot dogs & knishes.

    Just more wonderful memories.

  18. Hi All, especially the Palma girls,

As some of you so affectionately called her, I am the cookie lady’s daughter……..22nd street….

Margaret, I remember sitting on your front porch, also, for hours…and how many wonderful hours our moms spent on that porch, with Angie and Rose D’Lessio and Marguerite Brady…does anyone hear from Joe Brady?? I think he lives in Texas…
I live in Jersey and Elaine is in Texas and my brother, of couse, still lives on 22nd street.

Someone asked the name of the bar on 4th Av between 17th & 18th St……my brother said it was The Rustic Tavern…….???we used to live on 18th street before we moved to 22nd street (close to the Spinatos…..Henry, Guy, Joey & Anthony and their 2 sisters, Susan and Patricia).

  19. judy, franny, bobby o and richie catalano
received your 10 dollar checks today. b.spencer paid in full thanks

  20. Who remembers the park right next to the Prospect Park Express Way bet 6th and 7th? It was just a bunch of benches but we would hang out there a lot of nights. Also, does anyone remember a guy named Joey Dee? That’s what we called him anyway. He was the first in our crowd to have a car and I remember there was a very short, dead end street somewhere in the vacinity of Prospect Ave. above 7th and we would all get in this car at the start of the block and then he would gun it and then hit the breaks right before we hit the end. We all would close our eyes for the rush! I can’t believe we did that. We must have been out of our minds!

  21. Hi Old & New Comers,

Someone mentioned the Crosby’s many, many entries ago. They lived next door to me at 682 – 6th Ave. They (Charlotte, Virginia, Salvatore & Joey and their respective families) had all relocated south (maybe North Carolina?) before I moved to SI (about 16 yrs. ago). I think the only one left in that building is their cousin Anthony Panzera. Hmm, I wonder if he’s still there??

    Karen Dritto

  22. hi Doris Ceely How is everything? My sisters will be so happy you are on this site. So many great memories Donna

  23. Christina O I lived on 22nd street across from the at that time was St John’s convent. It was the house with the porch. I went to St. John’s with your brother James. My father was friends with yours, I remember you Mother and Father he worked in Parker & megna Pharmacy on 5th Avenue. The wedding was Jacqline and Arthur’s. send my love to all.

Doris Its been a while, how is Johnny and the boys, I miss your Mom there wasn’t a day that went by without her being at my house with my mother or just sitting outside. I talk to Billy every Christmas we make our yearly call. Florence and Donna now live in Florida how I miss them. My girls are all grown now Donna got married in October and the twins are 21 already. send my love to Elaine. Hope to see you at the reunion.

Terry Its jolly Rogers — yes we are showing our age now lol —

    Donna/Florence Miss you can’t for you to come up in October — xx x x x x x x x call you later

  24. TWIGGY! Thanks for the shout out about me being the first one on here. I really never thought it would take off like this!

Terry – yes, I started reading the blog befoer I left and could not stop and was late this morning!

  25. To Barbara Spencer: The park was called Rheingold Park ( so named by all the “teens” who hung out and drank — the two streets between Prospect Ave. were Webster and Jackson.

The dentist over the funeral home on 5th Ave. was Pianpiano.

Squeaky Palma — how are you? Don’t know if you remember me — I came to St. John’s in the 6th grade — Ronnie Jackson.

  26. SQUEAKY,
remember taking the bus to 14th street to hang out and your mother would send your father to follow us and he would be behind the bus. we used to go see elizabeth from bayridge hs i think. i know i wrote this already but remember going to school in a cab with judy because i never was ready. your father was so nice. he was like my dad quiet BUT our moms they could care less who was around they would yell no matter what. love terry

  27. Geraldine Gagliardi are we related? How ironic that Uncle Sally Orlando lives in Florida. And Nilda, yes, I am still very good looking.

  28. hi debbie Bonavita: i played double dutch and was pretty good at it as a child; i wrote on the blog above that this summer the children on 17th Street wanted to play rope, Tracy Hernandez purchased a double dutch rope, the children had a difficult time getting the hang of it, so i showed them how to jump in and showed them that it’s all about rythem. to my surprise i was still able to jump, other adults started to jump along with the children we all had a good time.

Aarons is no more, it closed down i believe last summer.

Geraldine Oliva: i have not seen u on the blog lately; miss reading u. take care. call me.

  29. There seems to be an unusual fascination with dentists and funeral homes in this blog. Perhaps, the psychologist who is mentioned by someone could explain this phenomenon.

Now ice cream, that’s something I can relate to !

I am still waiting for someone out there (besides Roseanne and TAS) who know who I am (and vice versa). Hey Ice Cream Mike, if you’re out there, I’d like a fudgie wudgie.

  30. Hi Donna,
So glad to hear your mom still lives in the neighborhood. God bless, 85.

  31. Rocco Jr – No we are not related.. I come from the Philadelphia Gagliardi’s, but have lived in the neighborhood all my life. I am a lot older then you & remember your mom & dad well. I knew your uncles’ sonny & johnny too. Uncle Sonny used to call me “Jelly Beans” when I was small & your Uncle Johnny used to tickle me & Flossy so hard in the candy store that we used to pee in our pants from laughing. I also knew your Grand father & Grandmother too. We lived a few doors from the candy store in the house with the steps down to the basement store. Hope all is well with your family & I know your dad was loved & missed lots by many. He was a special character……….

    Geri

  32. Rocco Jr – P.S. I am related to Terry Sherman, Carol Miele Vallaro, and Patsy Miele Kirk… We are all cousins….
