  4. TERRY ANGELO,

IS MICHAEL SCHIRALLI’S LOCATION A SECRET? I really want to talk to him or email him. I googled his name (so did Karen Bonavita) and I saw his picture in front of a camera. He’s the most awesome person! Just LOVED handing with him as kids…………he would sing opera, have the greatest costumes in his house, and than Ann Schiralli would whip up Linguini with Ricotta and Grated Cheese (no sauce) it was wonderful! (always thinking of food))

OH TERRY, I HOPE HE’S COMING ON THE 21ST. Have you been in touch wiith him? I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. THERE ARE SO MANY people I want to see, but I REALLY WANT TO SEE MICHAEL.

How about the fire drills down the metal stair case.

  9. Christina, I forgot the L in aol. My fingers type faster than my computer can receive. It is going to be time to get a new computer soon. This is going so slow that I feel I’m going in reverse at times.

  10. I have been away for some time so
    Hello All.
Steve, Jackie & Danny Price, I remember your mother & father very well. Your father would spend hours in the store discussing sports. I can remember my dad (Steve grocery store 22nd & 6th ave) saying what a good ball player he was. Jackie do you remember when you begged a few of us to go play football at your girl friends (early 70’s)It was raining, horrible day, we muddied their house& you were so happy that we beat them even though some of us were playing ball at college. Steve you were great ball player especially stick ball & we all wanted to follow in your footsteps. Danny, I remember you coming in the store smiling you had a tough act to follow but from what I have read you have a good fan club. I think you have surpassed your brothers.
Hi Laura Marsella I remember you well. Your smile & genuine kindness stands out. Remember me!
Donna & Kenny (rietz) Tanzillo. I have great memories of you, Donna, remember Baby Oil. 22 nd & 7 th !
Connie Dritto remember you well especially your Mom I was a crossing guard & I knew Raul .
Pat & Charlie miele. Pat you were always exceptional considerate& kind. Charlie, I remember how close you were with your grandma, Your grandmother would tell my father how proud she was of you & Pat. I also gave clothing away whether I knew it or not it was the right thing to do.
Anthony Oliva I do remember you & hope our paths will cross again.
    FOR ALL THE GUYS;
It is Saturday Morning we need at least 5 to play stick ball , 10 both sides. It’s 8:00 am ( summer) ringing all the door bells see who could come out begins with those up to wake up those that aren’t. No ball? Chipping money to get a spalding. No Stick ? Grab a broom stick? PLAY! PLAY! PLAY!
When It appears you can’t win choose sides again until the famous cry! Anthony, Michael come home for dinner.
When we were thirsty chip in buy a soda who has seconds, I have last I have dibs etc.. There was never concern about disease! We were very lucky.
To all I would love to be at the reunion my schedule tight but still working in it.

  11. Joyce,

Glad you have pictures of us when we were kids. Sorry but I don’t have any pics to bring, maybe some school year book pics though.

    Maria,

I remember National shoes had a nicer more hip selection of shoes than Miles did.

    Debbie,

During the fire drills the nuns would say “walk quickly & quietly” not a peep from anyone did you hear and I think we made it out of the building in record time!

Terry Angelo & Chris Oliva, everyone,
Thanks for putting the reunion together.

  12. Terry- I mailed my check this morning.

Wouldn’t it be great if Ralphie, Sid, Viggie, and the Gridiron Band, play at the reunion? Ralph Marcella is going to kill me for bringing this up, but that would be unbelievable.

Steve K, That was a great narative. What memories.

    Hi Christina, Hi Geri.

  16. Hi Everyone,

Annette – if you are the Annette that lived next door to Anna Schiralli, I definitely remember you. Are you planning to attend the reunion? It would be good to see you again. It has been a very long time. My brother, Sal, is a medic in the Army. He has a one year old daughter named Savanna. They are all doing well. My sister, Lynda, is living in Texas. She is doing fine as well. I married Anthony who I had been going out with since 1977. We have two beautiful children, Toni 13 and Matthew 10. If you attend the reunion, please try and bring pics. Is Mike who lived right next door to me still around? If he is, please tell him I said hello. Also, is you speak to Anna Schiralli, please ask her to have Michael get in touch with me. My email address is : [email protected]

Elaine (Ceely) Cavallo – Are we related? My grandfather was Salvatore Cavallo. He owed the plumbing and heating business on the corner of 22nd st and 5th. My parents were George (Sonny) and Arline.

If anyone talks to Francine Arena, tell her I was asking about her. I think about them every 4th of July. Our families would get together and have a huge barbeque and then all the men would light off tons of fireworks. Then they would turn on the firehydrants and everyone would clean the streets. It was great.

Does everyone remember all the great blockparties. Miss them – they don’t have many here in SI and even when they do, they are nothing like the one’s we had in Brooklyn.

  17. JANET C,
the annette next to annie schiralli is annette manzione i believe. and i am trying to get in touch with michael schiralli. i will send your love.

  18. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW DENISE CRESCI IS? SEND HER ALL OUR LOVE PLEASE LET HER KNOW WE ARE THINKING OF HER THANKS

  19. Hey George, We lived on 21st between 3rd and 4th 152. Where did you live? Did not talk with Sal yet, I will let you know.

  20. Wow, I’ve been reading along with Donna and cannot believe how many of you we have lost touch with. Stevie K, I remember your Mom and Dad in the store and how you would sneak us smokes from behind the counter. Patsy you always made me laugh and stuck with us boys in the band, Franny Bruno long time, how young we were. Stevie / Jackie / Danny nice to hear from you. Camile Liguori how is your sister?.

  21. Hi Everyone…. As Terry mentioned above I’ve sent to Amazon for several cd’s from the 60’s. So in addition to what I already have there are quite a few cd’s. I also have afew good Doo wop cd’s . What I need is a portable cd player. What I have and use in my yard really isn’t good enough. Anyone have something they can bring to the reunion? Please let me know. Thanks Deb.

  22. Terry u are a pisser. Everytime I read your posts I’m laughing out loud.

Annette, I live in Jackson, NJ near Rte 9. Moved from 29th St. in 99. Glad to hear from you. Sorry to hear that your brother died. When did Frankie die? This site is alot of fun but boy all the young deaths are so sad. Wow Annette your kids are older than I thought. They are older we aren’t.

Janet, I remember you and Sal you were young when I stayed on 22nd street so you probably don’t know me. I knew your mom and dad too. I think I read something about your mom and dad dying. How long ago? And yes Annette is the one you know, Manzione (Hendrickson).

Camille how are your efforts working out to get here?

Well I found closing pix of St Johns school but still can’t find what I did with old school pictures. Still looking. My house is a wreck between looking for videos for my aunt’s 90th birthday and old school pictures. for the reunion.

I have a name, see who knows him. Michael “deadwood” O’Grady.

He was in my house today and he was talking olden days. He mentioned some names and I knew them from this site. I told him they are on park slope site. He just does not want to get on.

  23. Did the Beaten Path ever make an albumn? It would be great to have their music.

  24. DEBBIE B.
ann walton said the club has a cd player there.
AND EVERYONE IT IS THE S.I. YACHT CLUB NOT GREATKILLS. SORRY!!
    SAME ADDRESS, wrong name….

  25. To Franny and Carol…. I know you mentioned a few things some days ago and if you don’t answer right away you can’t find the entries because there are so many. Franny I think you were asking about the bank on 9th street… Greater N.Y. sav. Bk. I worked at their brnch on Bay Parkway. That’s where I ran into Jamesey after about 30 some odd years. Yes I still sing. But there was a time there that I couldn’t reach a high note to save my life. That’s what smoking for 35 years will do to you. When I became sick and had no choice but to give it up God gave it back to me. Funny how there’s always something good you can find from something bad.I know you know what I’m talking about. XXXXOOOO

Carol… My favorite song will always be “What are you doing the rest……… I sang it to Charlie at our Wedding and then again at our 25th Anniversary( of course I sang it as a baritone lol but I can reach those notes now)Thank God.
You’re both so very kind with your compliments. Love you both and can’t wait to see you in a few weeks. XXXXOOOO

  26. YEAH DEBBIE DO YOU REMEMBER JUDY WAS GOING TO CUT YOUR PONYTAIL OFF DURING CHOIR BECAUSE YOU COULD SING AND THEY COULDN’T. SORRY JUDY

Boy what a Bitch!!!!! lol Do all your friends turn into bitches? Look at me . Hi Judy Love you and can’t wait to see you at the reunion. How’s Jayme? Tell her Dana and I said Hi.

  29. DEBBIE BRODBECK SICIARGO
The absolute very first thing I do in the am is log on to the animalrescuesite.com and go through all the clicks, clicking many times for the animals and the rain forest. Then I do whatever I have to do online, but the animals come first !! Janet

  30. HI ALL,

JUST HAD A FLASH BACK ANY ONE WHO WAS IN THE BROWNIES WITH MRS TAYLOR , WELL DO YOU REMEMBER BEING ON THE BOZO SHOW.

  31. ELAINE CEELY: I was waiting for you to sign on. Would love to talk to you. My email is [email protected] I’m shocked about your cousin Geraldine. We’ll talk soon.

Hi Doris Ceely Rios. So happy to hear all about what’s happening with you. Give Johnny my best regards.

  32. Janet M. Horan …. Bless you. I don’t know what happened to me . It must have been when I got my little Pekingnese Smokey Joe . I just love him so much and now have become such an animal lover and try to help all the foundations in any way I can. Yesterday I didn’t rest until I picked up a dead cat on my street and put it safely in a plastic bag to await the sanitation. I’m really going nuts. By the way your name is very familiar. Did you stay on 19th street at all ? I know my husband Charlie knows you from St. John’s but I didn’t go there. See you at the reunion. Thanks again caring. Good Night.

  33. Debbie,

I got nervous when I read your comment LoL I was just jealous of your beautiful voice and that beautiful long blonde hair, remember singing at bank on 9th Street I still have that picutre that they took of us your in it to Franny! but ofcourse you can only see the top of my head with that perm that my mom made me get! LOL I can’t wait to see you too.
    Love ya

  34. Terry:
That was very nice what you said about Joey Volpe’s lips LOL

I had my reasons, remember he was Eddie Denny’s cousin.

    Love ya

  35. Judy, I don’t know for sure but didn’t you and I have a class or two in elementary. Does Miss Woods sound familiar? Second grade.

  36. Hi Janet,

Yes we are (sort of) my husband Gabby (Joe) Cavallo was Ann and Nick Cavallos son they also had another son Bobby who just passed away from lung cancer and they also have a daughter, Betty (my sister in law) she lives in Bergenfiled, NJ. My husband and your dad, Sonny were cousins. Frank Cavallo was the other brother and was married to Marie. they had 3 girls, Grace, Franny (who passed away very young, cancer) and Rita Cavallo.

MaryAnn, my husband just told me that your father in law – Joe Fucci was his godfather for confirmation and he took his name for his confirmation (Joe) which is the name he goes by because he doesn’t like either of his first 2 names Carmine Gabriel Joseph Cavallo.

Linda Joy, I do remember my mom mentioning the fact that her cousins lived on 23rd street. But I did not know that my father saved your mom from drowning, the little facts we are learning from one another.

Classmates from Sr. Amato’s 6th grade….do you remember her teaching us girls how to crochet? We would crochet while the boy’s said the rosary after lunch. Sr. Jean Ellen 8th grade, took us to Rye Beach for our graduation field trip. I remeber having a great time.

Harvey Bird, that is a name from the past. We dated for a while we made one of those round coin things that you press down the letters of your names at Coney Island. The things we remember!

Margaret Palma, so nice to hear from you ~ Can’t believe your Donna is married and the twins are 21. I sure do miss the good times we had on your porch and the fireworks on 4th of July. Do you remember on New Year’s Eve we would all go out and bang the garbage cans with the covers. They were simple times then. Our mom’s were such good friends and I miss her telling me and my sister (Doris) all about the “happenings” on 22nd street.

Fr. Strinese married Joe and I – he was so young for a priest and then soon after we were married, it was in the papers that he was shot they said he was gay because he was waiting for someone in a lousy section of Bklyn. My mom also loved Fr. D (D’Lorenzo) She told us of how he did the station of the cross marching through the streets and he was Suppose to be Jesus hanging on the cross with just a rag drapped around himself. That made quite a fuss with the people, but soon after that he left the priesthood and married the choir director. Everyone deserves to be happy ~

Terry Angelo, Mrs. Panchoch, her daughter Frances was in my class and they lived on 17th street between 4th & 5th ave. She was good friends with Carolyn German (her dad owned Otto’s restaurant) Anyone know of their where-abouts? Class of 1960…..

Guess that’s it for now, take care Yu’all………

    God bless,
    Elaine
    .

  37. anthony oliva —– sorry but I’ve never heard of King Pleasure or their song you have mentioned. It never made the top 100 list and I can’t seem to find anything about them. What year did they come on the scene? King Pleasure — Pleasure King – sounds more like a porn movie title – yuk yuk.

  38. Harvey Bird Any relations to the Birds in Staten Island.
Stephanie is a school teacher at PS 55?

  39. Gary, I thought you were the expert–lol –King Pleasure is not a group. he’s an old time Jazz Singer .. Go to Amazon.com and plug in King Pleasure and you’ll see all his stuff.

  40. Joyce Castaldo….How nice of your mother to think of me. Please tell her I said hello too. She’s a lovely lady.

I remember Herbie beating everyone at handball.

My wedding reception was at the Hollywood Terrace and Marcy Studios took the pictures so I remember both well.

Mrs. Panchok lives on 67th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. She’s well. Her daughter, Frances, lives in Houston Texas where she teaches College classes. Frances has two daughters, Andrea( my Goddaughter) & Janine ( Cathy Guerrasio’s Goddaghter). Both girls have settled on the East coast but Frances remains in Houston so far. Unfortunately , Frances was widowed several years ago.

So sorry to hear about Geraldine Mullaly. She’s one of the first ones I remember when I came to St. John’s.

Sister Amata was a doll. How relaxed that 6th grade class was. Sister Anne Mercedes was a shocker after her. Her famous phrase was ” Stupidity personified.”

Rita Negri (my cousin) still has a beautiful voice. She sang at her daughter Lauren’s wedding reception at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. They all reside in Massachusetts.

Jack and I will not be coming to the reunion. We have a wedding that weekend.

Do you remember how much all our mothers loved Father D’Amato? He was in charge of the Rosary Society years ago. Those Rosarians would put on plays and our mothers had a good time being in them. How Aunt Muiel Negri loved being on stage.

  41. Sorry, it was Geraldine Mayberry. Her Mom’s maiden name was Mullally.

Janet Cavallo, your grandfather had the name ‘Lynda’ painted on his new business truck when your sister was born. I also remember your gandmother, Gussie. I believe that was her name. My parents and I rented the two appartments above the gas company for years.

  42. Danny:

I Loved Mrs. Woods she was one of my favorite teachers! I guess we were in the same class together. Did you have Mrs. Boyd in the 4th and then in the 6th grade? were talking alot of years ago. LOL
But I can’t recall your name, where did you live?

  43. I had forgotten about the polio scare. It’s true, everything we touched or did that we weren’t supposed to do, our mothers told us “you’ll catch polio”. We didn’t know what polio was, but we sure were scared of it. My next door neighbor did get it and had to wear braces the rest of her life, and then my brother caught it from her. He had to go to physical therapy for a long time for his walking but he’s fine now. Do you remember wearing the little camphor blocks on a string around your neck? It was supposed to ward off polio (don’t ask me how!!). I remember when the little sugar cubes with the polio vaccine came out — we were lined around the blocks to get one of them. The parents were so relieved. I also remember playing stick ball with a broom stick, handball with no gloves, and the Spaulding balls (but you remember == we called them Spauldeens). I’m totally jealous that you guys are having a reunion and that I can’t come — such fun. I wish you all a wonderful time and many happy park slope memories. I will be in Cancun though so I won’t be suffering TOO much. I’ll be thinking of all of you and hoping you have a wonderful time.

  44. LUCILLE BALL,

Yes, Spauldeens……….too, too funny and so true! I’m laughing so hard right now. I’m glad to see you back on the blog. You have wonderful memories and we enjoy reading them. Have a wonderful time in Cancun.

Send me your address and email so I can send you pictures when the reunion is over. Also, Terry will keep the address for future reunions. You can call me (954) 659-2115 or email me at: [email protected]

  45. Yes, I had Mrs. Boyd in the 4th. or 6th. Can’t remember if I had her twice. I lived at 664 – 6th. Ave. between 19th. & 20th. St.
Miss Woods – she was heavy set and always wore those funny shoes (black) with laces on the side. I don’t think she was able to bend over forward to tie shoes! Ahh…PS 146, plenty of good memories from that school.

  46. GOOD MORNING “HOG BLOGS” HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A GREAT WEEKEND SO FAR.

CHARLIE WE HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME AT YOUR HOUSE YESTERADAY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH AND I WILL TALK TO YOU SOON.

HI AUNT CAROL. YOU ARE AS BEAUTIFUL AS EVER. LOVE YOU XXO

ANTHONY OLIVA JAMESY ASKED MY AUNT CAROL FOR MY E-MAIL ADDRESS AND PHONE # PLEASE TELL HIM TO GET IN TOUCH WITH ME. WILL HE BE AT THE REUNION? LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL THERE:)

  47. Good Morning Everyone….
Judy O.and Danny L…. I too, went to P.S. 146. There aren”t many of us on this site that went there. The teachers that I remember having were Mrs. Shwint (sp) 1st gr., Mrs. Woods 2nd gr., Mrs. Sydes ( I really don’t know how to spell.. shame on me) 3rd grade, Mrs. Carey 4th gr.,Mrs. Sarcona 5th gr. and Mrs. Carey again in 6th grade. The principal was Mrs. Twigg and the ass’t principal was Mr. Cazzazar(sp). My mother worked there for over 30 years. She ran the library and always had a lunch hour to take care of. She blew that whistle forever! Mrs. Brodbeck, if you remember. Good talking to you. I need a cup of java. Later, Deb.
P.S. I’m not even sure But I think my years started there in 1956? I’ll have to check my old school photos.
